‘Effective visual communication is about much more than a set of pictures.’

About Dirk Wolf

Dirk combines the solid craftsmanship of the professional photographer with the instinctive creativity of the artist. Relying on strong technical skills, he creates unique images that seamlessly fit a wider conceptual vision. Emphasizing light and colour in his unique trademark style, Dirk creates compelling imagery that lifts and transports a subject out of their ordinary setting.

‘Growing up in the Dutch countryside with its ever changing vistas and skies, I was left with a permanent fascination of the playfulness of light. I soon realized that photography offered me the tools to capture and preserve those constant changes in atmosphere. The camera gave me the opportunity to build a career on that early fascination.

After graduating from the Royal College of Art in The Hague, I strengthened my technical expertise and skills through work as a product photographer for Sony. I further expanded my knowledge and repertoire working as an assistant photographer for renowned Dutch photographers, such as Paul Ruigrok, Chris Hutter and Arthur Mebius. Under their mentorship I learned how to effectively use my artistic and technical abilities in a commercial setting.

During my career I have worked across various disciplines, ranging from portrait and documentary through to landscape and music photography. I have shot large commercial campaigns, wide ranging editorial work for magazines and pursued a passion for music photography, to name a few. My drive to share knowledge and expertise has lead me to teach select classes at the PhotoWise photography school.

My work has been nominated for the prestigious Dutch press award Dagbladgoud and won me the Shell Young Award and the Lex Rossen Award.’

Mission statement

‘Effective visual communication is about much more than just a set of pictures. It begins at the conceptual level. I enjoy sharing my experience and working closely with the creative team from the very start of the creative process.

Since every client is unique, my work always aims to visually capture the distinctiveness of who or what I portray. With every shoot, I try to create a relaxed environment where people feel at ease. When I see people leave the set with a smile, then it gives me a sense of satisfaction knowing they are relaxed and comfortable. That natural feeling reflects in my work.

The essence of being a professional is knowing when and how to assemble a team of experts to deliver the best solution for the client. Over the years, I have developed a select network of professionals with the same exacting standards as myself. Therefore, whatever the job at hand, I know who to bring together to get the best results. They include experts dedicated to styling, make-up and other creative inputs.

Whatever the brief, I combine the curiosity of the creative with dedication and work ethic of the professional.’
